Chase Pipes is an archeologist, paleontologist, and historian from Dandridge, Tennessee, who is the co-owner of the Smoky Mountain Relic Room. In addition to this establishment, Chase Pipes is the host of Chasing History, which features segments on the different archeological around the country.
Chasing History is a testament to the fact that fossils exist everywhere. According to a September 2021 Knox News article, Mr. Pipes stated that contrary to what many believe, fossils are not rare. They can be found everywhere on Earth.
The motivation for doing the show was to inspire ordinary people to explore their towns and cities to collect fossils. As opposed to looking computer generated images of dinosaurs and other extinct life, the show illustrates to viewers that artifacts can be found in open spaces in their communities.
Some of the relics featured on Chasing History have included Trilobites, a species found in Africa believed to have existed in the ocean between 419 and 403 million years ago. Another fossil found off the Hadrosaur scapula was discovered in the Hell Creek Formation, which begins in Montana and extends into North, South Dakota, and Wyoming. In Worms, Germany, archeological finds have included the Juvenile mammoth tooth believed to exist between 60,000 and 40,000 years ago
